What a wild and beautiFUL day.
Upon waking up, my squad came together for our morning devo. This one looked a little different than I usual:). We spent some time in musical worship and then took turns sharing memories of ways the Lord has met us in worship. It was so good!
After devos we met with the pastor and his team here (the Catrachos). We chatted about what our day would look like and then got started.
Some of us decorated the base for hundreds of kids to come, some prepared the food, some created a special space for the teenage girls, and some made the guys an awesome hangout area.
Here in Honduras thereโs a day called โkids day.โ But, really, itโs celebrated all month.
For the past week weโve visited houses all around the mountain to invite kids to our VBS/celebration. We expected maybe 300 kids, but, starting an hour early, lines of people were waiting at the gate.
Including moms, kids, and teens, we had just over 700 people turn out for the VBS!
The food was multiplied, truly, only by God.
We had piniatas for each age group, the story of Jesus and Peter walking on water, games to keep them active, crafts to get a little creative, and verse memorization to help them keep it.
My favorite memory from this couple hours came right at the end. I was watching the little kids (2-5 years old) hit the piรฑata, and encouraging the ones off to the side to take a turn. Once the piรฑata was split open and a rush broke out to grab the candy, I led those outside little ones to grab some of the candy. Then, once all of the candy was picked up, a little girl walked up to me, reached in her bag, and handed me a little piece of candy she had found. She walked away and I saw a little boy telling his mom that he was so sad because he only got one piece. His mom looked at him with a pitiful look in her eyes. I handed him the candy I had just been given and both of their faces lit up like the sun. Watching that, another little girl came up to with a handpicked piece of gum from the cradle she made in her dress, holding the rest of her candy. I felt so blessed by these precious little ones who desired to share from what small amount they had. ๐ฅน
Right as we ended our time with what seemed like so much of the community, it was time for dinner. We ate and then decided most of us wanted sleep. I went in the kitchen to wash my plate, and Belen ( a Catracho here) asked if I wanted to wear a skirt that I had left last time I was here. She kept it and wanted to give it back. She ushered me into the room she shares with 3 other ladies, and we ended up having a full fashion show. She showed me the skirt and Amanda rummaged for a shirt to go with it. I tried on a few till we landed on the right one for Church in the morning. We laughed and chatted and got a little slap happy. I was reminded of how real people are. How these girls just desired to spend time together and loved a little fashion show. ๐
It was such a pure day and one SO full. Never did we expect to receive so many people, but the Lord always knew He would provide for them!!
It reminded me of what the disciples might have been experiencing as Jesus fed the 5,000. How grand the job of crowd control might have been. How people just kept coming and none would be turned away. How people could have been reaching and grabbing for the food in their hands, though they didnโt expect to have enough.
What a sweet little picture into what that time with Jesus may have looked like!
Thanks God for showing us more of yourself today - an answered prayer!
