I wrote this the other night - recapping a really special day:)
Today was one of the sweetest days. Upon waking up, I spent time with the Lord and read through Psalms. After cereal breakfast, I got ready for the day and headed to morning devo. This was such a sweet time. Mercy and Carter did the worship in English and Spanish, and Amanda spoke on what an idol is - not just the physical things.
Then my squad hopped in the back of a couple trucks and drove into town. We chatted and laughed as we made our way from the dirt paths to the cement roads.
We arrived at the chocolate factory in the downtown of Comayagua and spent the next 2 hours taking a chocolate tour and sampling all of the yummies. As we were about to leave, we asked to pray for the man leading the tour. After doing so, a women who was deaf asked if we could pray for her. It was one of the first times I’ve been able to use the sign language that the Lord has given me. A group of us chatted with her for quite a while and watched as her face expressed the hurt she’s walking through and as tears streamed down her face. We prayed for her and the Lord moved. Her body became heavy and as she released herself into our arms, those holding her gently let her down. An opportunity to pray for the healing of a sister- the comfort of a new friend and the provision for a child of God. Miss Paty was an older women with a sickness that hurt her deeply. She lacked many of the things she needed and she cried as we prayed. She couldn’t help but tell of how much Jesus loves her. As our praying came to a close, in English, I said “May her eyes be opened,” and, this deaf women who reads in Spanish immediately opened her eyes. This was such a sweet and encouraging friendship the Lord created.
After this time, a group of us started walking to the grocery store. On our way, Carter, Lia and I stopped to talk to a women on the street. It was the sweetest thing to watch her hold Lia’s hand as she led us through her camera roll and played songs on her phone. She was so content just to sit and sway to the music with us. Saying goodbye to our new friend Maria, the 3 of us walked the rest of the way to the grocery store. We got some little gifts and surprises and then walked back to the town square.
Eating our late lunch on the park bench, two siblings walked up to us as they were selling little candies and gum. We talked to them for a brief but beautiful moment. After they walked away, Lia asked if we could go talk to the people mourning at the statue of Jesus outside of the Catholic Church. Of course our answer was, “of course.” So, we walked back to chat and ask questions. We asked why they were mourning if indeed He has risen! So many side conversations happened from this and we met such kind people, including a small family who asked if I was a missionary. I answered, “yes,” and the man said, “I could tell. You’re wearing missionary shoes.” He was referring to my Birkenstocks, and at that I couldn’t help but laugh. After that funny interaction, and a few more, the three of us walked back to they square where we hopped back into the truck beds for our drive home. It was raining, but only slightly. We laughed and had an amazing time as we drove.
Upon arriving home, I did a quick little tent clean out and then Malachi and Presley tried helping me find the hole in my sleeping pad. It turned into a 6 person effort that was so kind lol. I felt bad leaving that whole project, but needed to head to a little meeting. A few of us were planning the squad events for Easter Sunday, making sure we celebrate the rising of our King!!
Just after that, we had dinner and then I spent time making little name cards for our special Easter plans. I made my way to the kitchen and Carter and Belen (one of the team members here) and I made a sweet evening treat -hot chocolate. We then chatted for a while and Lia joined us. We listened to worship music as we sat in a little triangle-circle situation. It seemed so beautiful to sit under our tin roof in the rain as we worshiped the Lord and watched the lighting strike and heard the thunder roar. Today was full of memories - memories that I will treasure in my heart and keep safe in my mind. I pray I don’t forget these, because the smiles they bring are big, beautiful, and radiant.
A couple memories captured…
