“A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity - all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:43-47
“And now, oh Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may your miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
Acts 4:29-30
“Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. ‘People of Israel,’ he said, ‘what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we made this man walk by our own power or godliness?’”
Acts 3:12
“But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of men who believed now totaled about 5,000.”
Acts 4:4
Have you ever walked down the street and cried because passion for someone’s soul came upon you?
Have you ever turned around because you could feel the eyes of someone who needed to be loved staring at you?
Have you ever started a conversation because you could feel the weight of His very heart for them?
What if this was a constant? What if this was normal - to stroll through the store or walk through the parking lot or drive down the road or go for a run - while being completely interruptible for the one due to feeling the Love in God’s heart for them? What if this became normal - to have a real conversation at the checkout line in the grocery store?
What if this passion for people to know the Gospel - the Good News - came upon us to share with our families?
He is worthy!
What if we didn’t just stop and make small conversations with people - what if we actually asked how they’re doing? What if we asked to pray with them? What if we shared our faith? What if we spoke the name “Jesus?” What if we asked if they want Him? What if we showed them what it looks like to have Him?
What if everyday we stop in our tracks for people to know and receive the Author of the Good News?
Somehow, it feels a lot easier to have these conversations and ask these questions when I’m thousands of miles from home. It feels easier to talk to people who speak every language but my own.
Why?
Why is it so scary to sit in an awkward situation, if it means His glory and their salvation?
Abba I repent for the times where I’ve chosen my own convenience over allowing space for you to move. Forgive me for operating out of exhaustion instead of saying yes to the people you’ve put in front of me.
My prayer is this : Abba, give us a fresh awe. Show us your face. May passion for your house consume us. Give us a boldness to speak your name that only comes from the love you’ve poured out on us. Give us a fresh revelation of your love. Let us bask in it. Let us overflow with the love in your heart for the people you’ve created. Abba let us not walk in mundanity or comfortability. Give us your eyes to see the children you’ve created all around us. Slow us down to see them. Open our ears to listen to their stories. Thank you that when we listen people will speak. Keep us tender. Keep us humble. Abba they need to know you simply because you are the lover of their soul. You created them and your heart longs to call them your sheep. Abba come. You’re coming back soon. Remind us each and everyday - give us a longing to dwell with you in the Secret Place. Work through us simply as we abide in you. May your spirit overflow into the lives of those around us. Keep us sensitive to your Spirit’s moving/promptings. Let the works of your hand follow the steps of your servants. Grow your family, that we may worship together, day and night. Have your way. Come meet your people.
We love you Jesus. Amen.
You are worthy of our foolish obedience.
